We are excited to share that changes will be coming to the film festival. First, we are moving our festival to the fall. Second, a new venue will be announced soon.
Thanks to all the filmmakers who have submitted their films already. You will hear from us in the summer.
It’s that time of year again where we ask YOU, our fellow filmmakers, to submit your work for the 2018 Chicago Festival of Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film! Are you a Bosnian filmmaker? A film student interested in Bosnian film? A member of the worldwide diaspora who made a masterpiece? Or a foreigner who made a Bosnian film? We want to view your screener!
Please submit your work by March 2, 2018. Deadline for submissions has been extended to August 3, 2018. We will review and let you know if you made the cut during the month of March. To submit, go here: https://chicagobhfilm.org/submit-your-film/
We look forward to hearing from you!

Good news! We’ve finalized the 2017 program. You can view it here. And don’t forget to come by on Saturday night to meet Jasmin Geljo!!
The festival is currently accepting submissions for the 2017 Chicago Festival of Bosnian & Herzegovinian Film. We are looking for short and feature work made by Bosnians or the Bosnian diaspora. We also take into consideration films made by foreigners that deal with Bosnian subject matter.
You can submit your work on our website or through Film Freeway. But first, read our Terms & Conditions.
Deadline is January 13, 2017.
We hope you cleared your schedule for this weekend because it’s finally time for the 11th annual Chicago Festival of Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film! And oh boy, do we have treats for you this year.
If you haven’t done so already, check out our program. On Friday during reception, you will be able to enjoy delicious food by Zebda and view art by Des Moines artist Monika Agic. Our friends at the Turkish American Society are also bringing by Bosnian memorabilia to show. Make sure to take pics on the red carpet and stick around to watch two films that have been submitted as Bosnia’s submission for the Oscars.
Saturday is filled with amazing films. Local artist Muamer Celik, who premiered his short film Toy Car, will be premiering another short with a lot of mystery. Cristobal Krusen is also presenting his emotionally gripping drama Sabina K. Stick around for a Q&A with the director and trust us, you will have a lot of questions. Don’t forget the after party at the wonderful venue HQ! Two local bands will perform and one of them will take you back in time (in a good way).
Sunday it’s all about self-discovery with films dealing with fitting in and going back home. Ivana shares her move as an adult to Sarajevo with us while Marko deals with two opposing perspectives on what it means to go back. Speaking of Marko, he’ll be there! In fact, him and our long-time festival friend Jeff Harder are discussing how in the world they manage to make movies on such a tight budget. Pick up some pointers before you go home and finally finish that script of yours.
We can’t wait to see you!
